I have always known that Jesus' death was our way into relationship with God but I have never actually seen it as being more important than the life he lived on earth.
It has recently been pointed out to me how the bible overviews Jesus' life, stopping here and there and sharing the miracles and teachings he has done and said, but then the bible slows right down and tells in detail about the passover and his death and ressurection.
Jesus' death seems to be more important than his life in the bible, and if jesus is our example of how to live life, which is to lay it down then our death too is more important than our lives.
as it says in Jn12:25
"those who love their life in this world will lose it. Those who despise their life in this world will keep it for eternal life"
to tell you the truth, I find this verse really hard to understand. can we take this literally? that if I do love my life I will be condemned to Hell?
I think we do put our lives on a pedistool and want everything we can get out of life because thats what we do, we are pretty selfish.
The way I percieve this verse is that God wants nothing to be higher than him, and I guess your life, laying down you is probably the biggest thing that you would ever have to lay down. It is most likely the biggest thing that stands in our way of a deeper relationship with God and total surrender.
This verse actually worries me that if I am putting my life above Jesus death then I will lose it...
Something to put actions to words I believe, because we only get one shot at life, and its not for us...
Its for him.
"Now my soul is deeply troubled. Should I pray,"father, save me from what lies ahead?" But that is the very reason why I came! Father, bring glory to your name"
Jesus. (Jn12:27-28)
